The organization was officially registered under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860. The Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha traces its roots to Hindu reform and Sabha movements in North India during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the Lahore Hindu Sabha (1906) and the Punjab Hindu Sabha (1909). Building on these initiatives, the All-India (Sarvadeshak) Hindu Sabha was founded in April 1915 at Haridwar under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, and in 1921 it was renamed the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, which went on to play a significant role in the nationalist movement, Hindu consolidation, and the articulation of Hindutva.
